West Ham United manager David Moyes has dismissed a question about his future following his side’s Europa League quarter-final exit to Bayer Leverkusen.
The 60-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and his position was the subject of fan protests earlier this year.
After Thursday night’s 1-1 draw with Leverkusen, which ended in a 3-1 aggregate defeat to the Bundesliga champions, a journalist began asking Moyes: “If this is the end of your tenure at the end of the season, what do you think of —”
The reporter was then interrupted by Moyes and the West Ham press officer.
“Sorry, I didn’t understand that question,” Moyes said. “We just played a third quarter-final.”
The journalist then rephrased the question, asking the West Ham manager to look back on his team’s three seasons in Europe, having reached the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2022 before winning the Conference League in 2023.
“A better question,” Moyes replied. “We played in three quarter-finals, won two and were narrow tonight. The fans were treated to great nights against Alkmaar and Sevilla.
“Leverkusen are a Champions League team and play that way. We have three fabulous years and we hope we can make it four.”
