Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s attorney said in a statement Monday that Rice is “cooperating with local authorities” following a multi-vehicle crash in northeast Dallas, B.C. Texas, Saturday evening.
A vehicle believed to have been registered or leased to Rice was involved in the crash, according to the Dallas Morning News.
“On behalf of Rashee Rice, her thoughts are with everyone affected by Saturday’s car crash,” Rice’s attorney, Royce West, said in the statement. “Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to responsibly address this situation. »
Chiefs team president Mark Donovan also addressed the situation on Monday. in an interview with KCMO radio.
“In all of these situations, you have to wait until you have all the facts and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan said. “The only comforting fact we have is that there was a multi-car accident in Texas, in Dallas, and fortunately it doesn’t appear that anyone was injured and we should be grateful for that. We will get to the bottom of it things, we will gather the facts and respond accordingly.”
Ted Crews, executive vice president of communications for the Chiefs, declined to comment on the situation when contacted by Athleticism on Sunday.
Police responded to the crash on a highway around 6:25 p.m. CT Saturday, according to a police statement obtained by Athleticism. The preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a Corvette and the driver of a Lamborghini were traveling at a high speed and lost control. The Lamborghini hit the center median wall, causing a chain collision involving four other vehicles, police said.
The drivers of the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene, according to the release. Two other drivers involved in the crash were treated at the scene for minor injuries and two occupants of another vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The investigation and identification of suspects are ongoing, according to police.
Rice, 23, grew up in North Richland Hills, a suburb of Fort Worth, and played college football at SMU. The Chiefs drafted him in the second round in 2023, and he became one of their top receivers last season.
Rice recorded 938 receiving yards and 79 receptions in 16 regular season games in 2023. He added 262 yards and 26 receptions in four playoff games en route to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.
