Manchester City striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is set to miss the remainder of the Women’s Super League season with a foot injury.
The 27-year-old will be assessed to determine the next steps in her rehabilitation and is expected to be out for the final three matches of City’s WSL title race.
Shaw suffered the injury during Sunday’s win over West Ham United when she caught a rebound of a Jess Park effort just before half-time, stopping abruptly and limping to the side of the pitch.
She was helped by two members of City staff and did not reappear after the break, with winger Chloe Kelly taking her place and leading the line in her absence. She was later photographed in a protective boot.
The Jamaican international is the WSL’s top scorer with 21 goals in 18 matches this season.
City face Bristol City, Arsenal and Aston Villa before the WSL ends on May 18. Gareth Taylor’s side are three points clear of Chelsea at the top of the WSL and have a slightly better goal difference, having played a game more. The club is trying to win its first WSL title since 2016.
Before being sent off, Shaw had scored City’s second and third goals to help her side take a 3-0 half-time lead against West Ham. City won the match 5-0.
City lost their second top scorer, Jill Roord, to a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January.
They return to action on Sunday with a trip to Bristol City.
