Dusty May’s first Michigan commit has a notable last name.
Justin Pippen, the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, committed to the Wolverines on Friday. Pippen, a 6-foot-3 combo guard in the class of 2024, is a four-star prospect ranked No. 101 in the 247Sports Composite. He chose Michigan over Cal, Stanford, Florida and Texas A&M.
Pippen visited Michigan last weekend and announced his commitment via a 247 livestream while sitting next to his father. He is the first player to commit to Michigan since May was hired last month by Florida Atlantic.
“The coaches have been great to me,” Pippen said. “They showed me a lot of hospitality. They gave me very good pitches. They see me coming as a player who can have an immediate impact on the pitch.
Pippen played at Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California, where he was teammates with Bryce and Bronny James, son of LeBron James. Pippen averaged 16.5 points and 4.9 assists as a senior, attracting attention from top programs across the country. He made a big jump up the recruiting rankings during that time and became one of the top uncommitted players in the 2024 class.
Justin’s older brother, Scotty Pippen Jr., played at Vanderbilt and averaged 20 points per game as a sophomore and junior.
At Michigan, May is rebuilding the roster after Juwan Howard’s firing and an exodus of players to the transfer portal. The Wolverines signed point guard Durral Brooks in November and retained guard George Washington III and forward Will Tschetter from last year’s team.
