Jim Harbaugh may have left Michigan to coach the Los Angeles Chargers, but he will forever carry a memory of the Wolverines’ perfect 2023 season. On Saturday, the coach kept a promise he made to the players and got “15-0” tattooed on his right shoulder under an M block.
Harbaugh promised players he would get his first tattoo if the team remained undefeated, which he did as Michigan finished the year with the program’s 12th national title.
“I don’t have any ink on my body,” Harbaugh said after his team beat Washington in the national championship game. “No tattoos anywhere, but I told our players that. I said if we went 15-0, I’d get a tattoo. He is 15-0. I’ll put it on my shoulder. I don’t know yet if it’s my left or my right. I’m a right-handed quarterback. I’ll probably put it on my right.
The tattoo was done by Michigan artist Stephen Bateman before Michigan’s spring game.
“I’m impervious to pain,” Harbaugh told spectators while getting his tattoo, a crowd that included former players such as Mike Sainristil.

“I loved it,” running back Donovan Edwards said. “Coach Harbaugh, he’s a man of his word.”
Harbaugh left Michigan for Los Angeles in January, signing a five-year contract after spending nine seasons with the Wolverines, where he compiled an 89-25 record and eight bowl game appearances.
