Bayern Munich striker Kingsley Coman has been ruled out of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal.
Coman, 27, injured his right adductor during Bayern’s 2-0 Bundesliga win over Cologne on Saturday and had to be withdrawn in the 50th minute.
Bayern captain Manuel Neuer and winger Leroy Sané were rested for the match ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Arsenal.
Both had injury doubts ahead of the first leg but started at the Emirates, with Sane making way for Coman in the second half of the 2-2 draw. Sane had won the penalty which Harry Kane converted in the first half to give Bayern a 2-1 lead.
Bayern said Neuer and Sane were rested “as a precautionary measure”, but Coman faces “several weeks” of absence.
A knee injury that ruled out Coman for almost two months has limited the Frenchman to just 27 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, in which he has contributed five goals and three assists. His latest injury also leaves a little doubt about his participation in the European Championship this summer with France.
“Kingsley Coman will be absent from FC Bayern for several weeks after the striker injured his right adductor muscle during the Bundesliga home match against Cologne on Saturday,” a Bayern statement said. “This was confirmed after an examination by the FC Bayern medical department.”
Bayern beat Cologne thanks to second-half goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller, delaying Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title celebrations.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen will be crowned league winners – ending Bayern’s run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles – if they beat 12th-placed Werder Bremen at home on Sunday.
