Rimas Sports, an agency launched last year by entertainer Bad Bunny, faces significant sanctions from the Major League Baseball Players Association, including at least one license revoked, multiple sources said informed of the file. Athleticism.
The agency was launched in partnership with Noah Assad, head of Rimas Entertainment, and Jonathan Miranda, named president. Rimas employed Hall of Famer Iván Rodríguez as a sports ambassador and his client list includes Francisco Alvarez and Ronny Mauricio of the New York Mets, Santiago Espinal of the Cincinnati Reds, Yonathan Daza of the Colorado Rockies, Wilmer Flores of the Giants of San Francisco, Jordan Diaz of the Oakland Athletics and Livan Soto of the Baltimore Orioles. The agency represents Diego Cartaya, one of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top prospects.
William Arroyo, one of Rimas Sports’ two certified agents, has had his MLBPA license revoked, the sources said.
“At Rimas Sports, we uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in our industry,” Rimas Sports said in a statement. “Out of respect for an ongoing process in the context of MLBPA agent regulation, we will refrain from commenting at this time. We remain committed to continuing to serve our customers with excellence.
The exact reason for this disciplinary action is unknown. Rimas has been the subject of several complaints from other agencies to the Players Association, which oversees agent certification for the major and minor leagues, several sources briefed on the matter said. The Players Association declined to comment.
Some of the complaints involved multiple employees, who were not certified agents but acting in that capacity, according to sources. Several player and agent accounts involve Rimas employees offering large sums of money, cars and other incentives prohibited by MLBPA agent regulations to entice players to switch agencies. Rimas reportedly has two certified agents — Arroyo and Michael Velasquez — according to sources, and other employees who sought agent status are now expected to be denied. Players affected by the news have been informed by the Players’ Association, according to sources.
Bad Bunny is a multi-time Grammy Award winner from Puerto Rico and is an avid baseball fan, dropping the names of MLB players in his songs. He also participated in the 2022 MLB Celebrity Softball Game.
In a statement announcing their launch, Assad said: “In the world of music, we have succeeded by knowing how to develop talent, helping our clients realize their vision by meeting their unique needs. This new venture is an expansion of that mission as we aim to bring greater representation to the Latin community in the world of sports.
