Kieran Trippier is in contention to return for Newcastle in Tuesday night’s Premier League home clash with Everton.
Trippier, 33, has started 25 Premier League matches for Newcastle this campaign but has been sidelined with a calf injury since the 3-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 2.
“Kieran is improving,” Howe said ahead of tomorrow’s game. “It’s been a difficult injury for him. A calf injury, which we have to be very careful with and we were hoping he would be fit for and around the West Ham game, but we will have to wait and see how he goes during this week.
Howe added of Trippier’s desire to return to action: “He is desperate to get involved, he knows what is at stake for us towards the end of the season and his qualities are evident. We are desperate to get it back, but it has to be at the right time.”
The update on Trippier comes at a good time after Newcastle’s central defensive duo Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles were both ruled out for the remainder of the season with ACL injuries.
