Manchester United are writing to the Premier League to call for greater consideration to be given to supporters when staging matches after being handed a late Monday night kick-off against Crystal Palace next month.
United will offer free coach travel to supporters traveling to Selhurst Park on May 6 in recognition of the logistical difficulties many supporters will face in attending the match.
The last direct train to Manchester will leave London Euston at 9.39pm that evening – earlier than the usual 10.03pm service – as operators Avanti West Coast operate a reduced timetable over the bank holiday weekend.
Between five and ten coaches will be made available for supporters wishing to travel by coach, subject to demand, while all ticket holders will be entered into a draw to win a signed United jersey.
United fans recently traveled to London for two late kick-offs against Brentford and Chelsea in the space of five days, while their FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley is scheduled for kickoff. sent at 3:30 p.m. on April 21.
In a message sent to ticket holders, United said: “We share your frustrations and appreciate the logistical difficulties that have been created for our fans by this match being scheduled for an 8pm kick-off on a day bank holiday Monday in London.
“We would like to inform you that we are writing to the Premier League to this effect and will request that greater consideration be given to supporters attending matches when agreeing match schedules with broadcasters.”
