New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said Thursday that a report he and coach Robert Saleh discussed at recent league meetings was “absurd.”
The report comes from Tuesday’s episode of the Around The NFL podcast in which NFL Network’s Colleen Wolfe cited a source and said there was “a very heated conversation” between the Jets owner and the coach.
“To the point where it was a little embarrassing,” she said.
“All this nonsense about a heated argument between coach Saleh and me during the League meeting is absolutely false.” Johnson wrote in an article on X. “This is yet another irresponsible report from NFL Network. Please disregard this.
The report was widely publicized, likely due to the perception that Saleh is on the hot seat after two consecutive disappointing seasons.
The Jets finished 7-10 for the second straight season. New York started last year with optimism after trading for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers before the season started.
Rodgers, however, only played four snaps before his season ended with a torn Achilles.
The noisy offseason continues
Saleh recently said he hopes things calm down around the Jets after a noisy 2023. Unfortunately for the Jets coach, it’s been a noisy offseason — few coaches can say they’ve had to respond to rumors that their quarterback might run for vice president. after all. Ultimately, none of this noise matters in the grand scheme of things.
The Jets have the talent to be a legitimate playoff threat this season if all of their key pieces — namely quarterback Aaron Rodgers — can stay healthy. Winning cures all ills – and the Jets just need to get back to the playoffs after a 13-year drought. — Zach Rosenblatt, Jets beat writer
