Dak Prescott said he doesn’t necessarily need to be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. However, the Dallas Cowboys and their franchise QB have failed to find common ground on his next deal.
Many thought something would be done before free agency began in March, but Prescott now faces the possibility of playing out the final year of his contract and potentially hitting free agency next March.
Speaking at a Children’s Cancer Fund event in Dallas Friday night, Prescott said he had spoken with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about his contract, but also noted that “real” negotiations had not taken place.

“My focus is on here and right now, where I am,” Prescott said. “That’s always how I’ve been. I’ve been in this situation before, so it’s okay. I feel good in any situation, whether I’m betting on myself or playing this year.

Prescott, who turns 31 in July, seems at peace. Some might think he would be concerned that this might be his last year in Dallas. He didn’t seem like someone worried about this potential scenario.
“I have no fear,” Prescott said. “I’m not going to say I’m afraid to be here or not. I don’t fear either situation, to be honest with you. I love this game. I love playing and I love improving myself as a player and my teammates around me.

“Right now it’s with the Dallas Cowboys. This is where I want to be and this is where I am. It is the objective. After the season we will see where we are and if the future allows us. Otherwise, go from there.
