Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters due to an arm injury.
Alcaraz, who was recently overtaken by Jannik Sinner as world No. 2, said in a statement on X: “I worked in Monte Carlo and tried to recover until the last minute from a pronator teres injured in the right arm, but that was not possible and I cannot play!
“I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year!”

The news is a blow to Alcaraz, who won the Indian Wells title last month after a difficult start to the year. It’s not his first fitness issue in 2024 either, following the ankle injury that forced him out of the Rio Open in February.
Alcaraz recovered from that setback to win his first title since Wimbledon last year at Indian Wells, before reaching the quarter-finals in Miami at the end of March.
Monte Carlo was set to be his first event of the European clay-court season ahead of Roland Garros next month.
Alcaraz gave no indication of how long his injury will keep him out, but he is on the entry list for next week’s Barcelona Open, which he won two years ago . If he fails to do so, there will be concerns ahead of Roland Garros, which begins on May 26.
Fitness permitting, Alcaraz will be one of the favorites at Roland Garros, having reached the semi-finals last year and twice won the Madrid Open, a Masters 1000 event one rung below the Grand Slam.
